BE PART OF A UNIQUE ARTISTIC PRODUCTION

Though animated in 3D software, the scenes in Eternal Spring incorporate stunningly detailed 2D illustrations from an acclaimed comic artist with a unique personal connection to the events depicted in the film.

Daxiong, who has illustrated Justice League and Star Wars comics among others, was forced to flee his home in Northeast China in the aftermath of a shocking hack of the state-run TV network by adherents of the Falun Gong spiritual group in 2002. He sets out to recreate the story through his art as he meets people close to the events while also coming to terms with his own memories of loss and suffering. Daxiong paints an intimate picture of the harrowing events, and his vivid illustrations come alive as a rich city imbued with his personal memories.

Now you can get closer to this creation process by coloring the original illustrations and comparing your own work to the final images as rendered in the film. Along the way, gain unique insight into the team’s creative process with audio clips narrated by the film’s director, Jason Loftus.

EXCLUSIVE ANIMATED VIDEOS AND ADDITIONAL STORY

This app features exclusive animation not found in the film. Dive further into the story of Little Wei, a man who was imprisoned together with the organizers of the hijacking operation, Liang and Big Truck. Little Wei is convinced that hacking into the state TV is the right thing to do, but he’s overcome by the trauma from the abuses he suffered during his previous stint in labour camp.

ABOUT THE FILM

Facing denunciations of their banned faith in the Chinese state media, an engineer named Liang and a hulking grain worker called "Big Truck" execute a bold and perilous plan to hack into state television.

In the aftermath, police raids sweep Changchun City, and illustrator Daxiong (Justice League, Star Wars comics), is forced to flee. He arrives in North America, blaming the hijacking for worsening a violent repression.

But his views about the TV hijacking are challenged when he meets the lone surviving participant to have escaped China, now living in Seoul. Daxiong uses his art to retrace the event--bringing to life an unprecedented story of defiance, harrowing eyewitness accounts of persecution, and an inspiring tale of determination to speak up in the face of injustice.
